Descrizione: Una delle otto foto che furono state ritrovate in una scatola di sigari da Imanol Arteaga, il nipote di un sacerdote spagnolo ex missionario in Bolivia, a cui il fotografo affidò copie delle sue immagini, temendo non poterle portare fuori dal paese. Nella foto è rappresentato il corpo privo di vita di Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Egli fu un rivoluzionario, guerrigliero e medico argentino. Guevara fu catturato dalle forze boliviane e dagli agenti della CIA l’8 ottobre e fu ucciso il giorno successivo. Il cadavere venne trasferito poi a Vallegrande, dove venne messa in scena l’ostensione del nemico ucciso, sopra un lavatoio pubblico rurale. Il regime boliviano esibì il corpo come un macabro trofeo, esponendolo come un animale appena catturato e ucciso. I militari sembrano cacciatori che si mettono in posa attorno alla preda per esaltare la loro impresa.

Description: This is one of eight pics that were rediscovered in a cigar box by Imanol Arteaga, the nephew of a Spanish priet (former missionary in Bolivia), to whom the photographer entrusted copies of his images, fearing not to bring them out of the country. In the picture is portrayed Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s dead body. He was an Argentinian rivolutionary, guerrilla fighter and medic. Guevara was catched by the Bolivian forces and by the CIA agents, on October 8th and he was killed the successive day. The corpse was then transfered to Vallegrande, where it was exposed onto a public and rural wash-house. The Bolivian government showed off Guevara’s body as a grisly trophy, exposing it as an animal that had just been captured and killed. The soldier look like hunters who pose around the prey, in order to emphasize their deed.
