Descrizione: Il 27 agosto, i giovani marciarono nella notte allo Zocalo (piazza della Costituzione) di Città del Messico, dove si trovava il palazzo del governo. Gli studenti volevano aumentare la propria visibilità grazie all’attenzione che c’era sulla città a causa dei Giochi olimpici del 1968 per cui lanciarono lo slogan: “Non vogliamo le Olimpiadi, vogliamo la rivoluzione”. Le immagini con il volto di Che Guevara, e gli striscioni contro il presidente Gustavo Díaz Ordaz che veniva paragonato ad un cane accompagnavano le proteste. Gli studenti avevano l’intenzione di rimanere in piazza fino al 1 settembre ma al mattino i carri armati li sfollarono con la forza. Le proteste, non diminuirono e le manifestazioni crebbero a tal punto che il 2 ottobre, dopo 9 settimane di sciopero studentesco, 15.000 studenti di varie università marciarono per le vie della città. Al calare della notte 5.000 studenti e lavoratori si raccolsero nella Plaza de las Tres.

Description: On August 27, the youth marched on the night at the zocalo (Constitution Square) in Mexico City, where the government palace was located. The students wanted to increase their visibility thanks to the attention that there was on the city due to the Olympic Games of 1968 for which they launched the slogan: “We do not want the Olympics, we want the revolution”. The images with Che Guevara’s face, and the banners against President Gustavo Díaz ordaz being compared to a dog accompanied the protests. The students had the intention to stay in the square until September 1 but in the morning the tanks evacuated them by force. The protests did not diminish and the demonstrations increased so much that on October 2, after 9 weeks of student strike, 15,000 students from various universities marched through the streets of the city. At nightfall 5,000 students and workers gathered in the Plaza de las Tres.
