L’operazione Praire fu una grande operazione di “individuazione e distruzione” sferrata durante la Guerra del Vietnam dai Marines al confine con il Vietnam del Nord. Lo scopo dell’operazione consisteva nel blocco dell’infiltrazione di unità nord vietnamite a sud del 17° parallelo e nella distruzione della Divisione nord vietnamita 324B, di cui era stata individuata la pericolosa presenza nel settore. L’operazione venne duramente contrastata dalle combattive forze nemiche e diede luogo ad alcuni aspri e prolungati scontri in impervie località della zona smilitarizzata che divennero tristemente note per le sofferenze e le sanguinose perdite subite dalle due parti.

Description: One of the photos of the war in Vietnam is represented by a Vietnamese woman interrogated with an M16 automatic rifle pointed at her head, taken in Tam Ky in November 1967 during Operation Praire in 1966. Operation Praire was a major “detection and destruction” operation launched during the Vietnam War by the Marines on the border with North Vietnam. The aim of the operation was to stop the infiltration of North Vietnamese units south of 17°and the destruction of the North Vietnamese Division 324B, whose dangerous presence in the sector had been identified.The operation was strongly opposed by the combative enemy forces and gave rise to some harsh and prolonged clashes in the impervious localities of the demilitarised zone that became sadly known for the suffering and the bloody losses suffered on both sides.
