Eric Patrick Clapton è un chitarrista e cantautore britannico. Soprannominato “Slowhand”, Clapton è annoverato fra i chitarristi blues e rock più famosi e influenti. Unico musicista inserito tre volte nella “Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame” e secondo solo a Jimi Hendrix nella classifica dei “100 migliori chitarristi di ogni tempo” stilata dalla rivista Rolling Stone, Clapton pubblica nel 2013 il 20° album, “Old Sock”, duettando tra gli altri con Paul McCartney.

Eric Patrick Clapton is a British guitarist and songwriter. Nicknamed “Slowhand”, Clapton is one of the most famous and influential blues and rock guitarists. The only musician inserted three times in the “Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame” and second only to Jimi Hendrix in the ranking of the “100 best guitarists of all time” compiled by the magazine Rolling Stone, Clapton publishes in 2013 the 20th album, “Old Sock “, dueling among others with Paul McCartney.

Grande improvvisatore, tanto nell’ambito della tradizione indiana quanto in altri territori musicali, ha collaborato con numerosi musicisti occidentali, da Y. Menuhin a G. Harrison, J. P. Rampal e P. Glass, e con virtuosi di strumenti tradizionali giapponesi. Ha preso parte ai festival pop di Monterrey (1967) e di Woodstock (1969) e ai concerti a favore del Bangla Desh (1972). Nella foto è ritratto durante la quinta edizione del Paris Jazz Festival.

He is considered one of the most virtuous of the twentieth century sitar and has contributed decisively to the spread throughout the world of this instrument and of Indian music in general. A great improviser, both in the Indian tradition and in other musical territories, he has collaborated with numerous Western musicians, from Y. Menuhin to G. Harrison, J.P. Rampal and P. Glass, and with virtuosos of traditional Japanese instruments. He took part in the pop festivals of Monterrey (1967) and Woodstock (1969) and the concerts in favor of Bangla Desh (1972). Descrizione: Stratos studiò per i primi tredici anni della sua vita al Conservatorio Nazionale di Atene, imparando a suonare il pianoforte e la fisarmonica. A diciassette anni si trasferì a Milano, dove fondò il suo primo gruppo musicale e successivamente iniziò la carriera da musicista professionista. Demetrio Stratos, pseudonimo di Eustratios Demetriou, fu uno dei cantanti che approfondirono maggiormente la pratica della diplofonia (La diplofonia, o canto difonico, è infatti una tecnica di canto armonico che sfrutta le risonanze del tratto tra le corde vocali e la bocca per ottenere effetti acustici davvero suggestivi ed evocativi).
Durante la sua carriera di cantante venne a contatto con alcune popolazioni asiatiche che utilizzavano la diplofonia nei canti tradizionali. Egli rimase a tal punto affascinato da questa tecnica vocale da renderla parte integrante delle sue produzioni artistiche. L’artista dall’insolito talento riusciva a produrre diplofonie, suoni bitonali e difonici, abilità diverse tra loro che difficilmente possono trovarsi racchiuse in una sola persona. Non a caso ancora oggi i risultati che raggiunse Stratos in questo campo sono considerati impareggiabili, sia per la dipolofonia, sia per le influenze che essa ebbe sulle produzioni musicali sue e degli “Area”.

Description: Stratos studied for the first thirteen years of his life at the National Conservatory of Athens, learning to play the piano and the accordion. At seventeen he moved to Milan, where he founded his first musical group and then began his career as a professional musician. Demetrio Stratos, pseudonym of Eustratios Demetriou, was one of the singers who further deepened the practice of diplofonia (the diplofonia, or diphonic singing, is in fact a harmonic singing technique that exploits the resonances of the stroke between the vocal cords and the mouth to obtain effects really suggestive and evocative acoustics). During his singing career he came into contact with some Asian populations who used diplophony in traditional songs. He remained so fascinated by this vocal technique that it became an integral part of his artistic productions. The artist with an unusual talent could produce diplofonies, two-tone and difonic sounds, different abilities that can hardly be enclosed in a single person. It is no coincidence that even today the results that Stratos reached in this field are considered unparalleled, both for the dipolophony, and for the influences it had on his musical productions and those of the “Area”.
